What is it about the Democratic Republic of Congo that continues
to fascinate of American authors? Professor Renders explores both fiction
and non-fiction American writing on the Congo in this presentation.

Professor Renders specializes in Dutch literature on the former Belgian
colony, the Congo and in Afrikaans literature. He is currently teaching
a course at UC Berkeley in Dutch Studies: /The White Man’s Burden. The
Congo in Dutch and English Literature/.
