Pim Fortuyn - Introduction

Dutch politician famous for his anti-immigration views and a knack for stirring up controversies. He was among the most outspoken leaders criticizing the Islamic faith for its treatment of women and homosexuals. At the height of his career, he founded his own political party called Pim Fortuyn List and campaigned for the position of Prime Minister. The flamboyant politician received widespread support from voters especially the young. However, he was shot and killed 9 days before the election in 2002 by a fellow Dutchman, Volkert van Der Graaf who felt that it was his duty to protect the weaker groups of society from Mr. Fortuyn.
