Requirements for the Minor

Requirements for the Minor in Dutch Studies

As flexibility and interdepartmental cooperation are of essential importance to the Dutch Studies Program, there are no required courses to the Dutch minor besides the introductory Dutch language courses. This enables students to compose the Dutch minor according to their personal interests. It also makes it easier to add Dutch Studies as a minor. Students who already possess a solid knowledge of the Dutch language can petition to have the Dutch 1 and 2 prerequisites waived.

Since the number of upper division courses offered in the Dutch Studies Program is limited, we strongly encourage students considering a minor in Dutch Studies to apply to the UC Berkeley Study Abroad Program. UCEAP coursework and credits with a focus on Dutch language, history and culture, in the broadest sense can be counted towards the Dutch Studies minor (up to 2 courses) requirements, upon approval by the Program Director.
